Trash Out - The World of Foreclosures

Foreclosed Homes - What's a 'Trash Out'?

A 'Trash Out' is often a gut wrenching clean out of a home where the owners have left their belongings behind.  Often valuables, cherished family items, important paperwork are just left where they are.  The people vanish and move quickly on to their new location.  Poof.

I think personally one of the most heart wrenching is when you find family photos that should have been taken.  Why not?  It would only take a minute to throw these into a pile for future memories.  The last 'Trash Out' I attended the owners left their daughters communion dress on the floor of her bedroom.  I asked the seller twice, 'you are going to take that right?'  Can you imagine me having to ask twice?

Here's a video from Lisa Ling.

Lyn, I have done several trash outs myself and it is the pictures that are left that can't be replaced that blow my mind!

It is sad in any case when things are left behind. I can't imagine what goes through the head of a person in foreclosure. Sad indeed!

It is so sad. I think the worst is when there are animals left behind. Fortunately there are a lot of organizations set up to help these animals.

Marcy: Yes, I haven't personally seen it but I've heard from the shelter I support that it happens ALOT.  Poor dog/cat is left there for days at a time before someone finds them.

Ellen:  Can't understand leaving behind family memories that have nothing to do with the time inside the house.

Lyn-

It boggles the mind what some people consider important.  I am not the most sentimental person in the world, but I cant imagine under any circumstances why these items would be left.

Rich: Think if you would leave pictures behind of your little guy? Don't think so, I'd stuff them anywhere they would fit!

What a sad video clip.  Unlike Rich, I lean towards being very sentimental when it comes to my family and I hate throwing anything out - although I've gotten much better lately.  I've only kept the baby clothes that I made myself!

How sad to be in such a situation.

Lyn,

I remember a contractor and me both crying when we saw the abandoned dolls and dresses in a little girl's room. Shattered dreams, shattered lives...
