OH NO, Here comes Toto!

OH NO, here comes Toto!

Toto
This weekend here in Illinois
we had really great weather so we decided to take the dog for a walk in the local forest preserve called Mallard Lake. Very nice area with ponds, trails, etc. We were enjoying ourselves on the final leg of our walk when around the bend - here comes 'Toto'.

I am really bad at remembering dog breed names and this dog was headed straight at us on our left at a pretty good clip. What was strange was obvious - he or she was alone! No owner anywhere around.

I was so surprised that I didn't even think to step in front of the little pooch to slow him down. He just 'flew' by and totally ignored my dog which was unusual too. A few hundred feet back was a gentlemen walking with his fishing pole and I asked him if that was his dog. He said the odd thing of 'I thought that was your dog! I've been following him for a little bit and he's just been in front of me'. Well my husband and I just turned around and my first instinct was to start running after the dog to catch it.

As I'm jogging over this bridge, I realize I am really old. I can't keep this jogging up for long and I won't be able to catch 'Toto' unless Lance Armstrong and his wonder bike comes whizzing down the path to help us.

Needless to say, 'Toto' just cruised up the trail and around the bend then quickly out of site. Awww shoot .... I was totally upset (and out of breath) as to what to do next. Could that little dog make it by himself basically out in the woods? He was all groomed and looked like he knew where he was going and had a purpose. Was he going to PetSmart? He looked really determined to get to an appointment somewhere.

Upon leaving we tried to go around the other side of the Forest Preserve to see if we could find another entrance or hook up to the walking path. No 'Toto'.

Hope 'Toto' is OK.
